What Are Spend Limits?
Spend limits cap how much you spend on AI usage. There are two:
Monthly Limit — caps spending across your whole workspace or organization
Spend per Chat — caps how much any single conversation can spend
For how credits, overage and billing work, see How Spend Limits and Overage Billing Work in TeamAI.
Setting a Monthly Limit
For Organizations (Enterprise Plans)
Go to your Organization Admin panel
Click Spend Limits in the sidebar
Click Set Limit (or Change Limit if one is already set)
Enter your desired monthly limit in dollars
Click Save
For Standalone Workspaces
Go to your Workspace Settings
Click Spend Limits in the sidebar
Click Set Limit (or Change Limit if one is already set)
Enter your desired monthly limit in dollars
Click Save
Setting a Spend per Chat Limit
This caps how much any single conversation can spend. It is useful for stopping one long chat from consuming your budget.
Go to Spend Limits
Under Spend per Chat, click Set Limit (or Change Limit)
Enter an amount in dollars
Click Save
When a chat reaches the limit it stops accepting new messages, and you will see how much that chat has spent. Start a new chat to carry on — your other chats are not affected.
Note: unlike the Monthly Limit, Spend per Chat counts all usage, including usage covered by your included credits.
In an organization, workspaces use the organization's per-chat limit unless they set their own.
Maximum Limits by Plan
Plan | Maximum limit |
Individual | $100 |
Starter | $500 |
Professional | $1,000 |
Enterprise | $50,000 |
The minimum limit is $1. If you need a higher maximum, contact support.
Email Notifications
Set custom spending thresholds to get notified before you hit your limit. This gives you time to adjust usage or increase the limit.
How to Add a Notification Threshold
On the Spend Limits page, find the Email Notifications section
Click + Add
Enter the dollar amount at which you want to be notified (for example $300)
Click Add
You can set several thresholds — for example $300, $400 and $500 — to get progressive warnings as spending increases. All owners and admins receive the emails, once per threshold per billing cycle.
Enterprise Organizations
Usage from every workspace counts toward the organization's total
The organization's limit applies to workspaces that have not set their own
A workspace can set its own limit, which then applies to that workspace instead of the organization's
Owners and administrators can set the organization limit
What Happens When You Hit a Limit
Monthly Limit: AI features are temporarily blocked. You will see your current spend, your limit, and the date it resets. You can increase the limit immediately to continue, or wait for the automatic reset on your next billing cycle date.
Spend per Chat: that chat stops accepting new messages. Start a new chat to continue — your other chats are unaffected.
Removing a Limit
Go to the Spend Limits page
Click the trash icon next to Monthly Limit or Spend per Chat
Note: removing the Monthly Limit means AI will be blocked once you exceed your included plan credits, since there is no overage budget set. To allow overage usage, you need an active Monthly Limit.
Frequently Asked Questions
Who can set spend limits?
Owners and administrators, for both organizations and workspaces.
Can I change my spend limit mid-month?
Yes. You can increase, decrease, or remove your limit at any time. Changes take effect immediately.
Why does my monthly spend show $0.00 when I have been using AI?
The Monthly Limit only counts usage beyond your included plan credits, so it stays at $0.00 until you have used your full allowance. Spend per Chat is different — it counts all usage from the first message.
What is the difference between the two limits?
The Monthly Limit caps spending across your whole workspace or organization. Spend per Chat caps a single conversation. See How Spend Limits and Overage Billing Work in TeamAI for detail.
When does my spend limit reset?
Your spend tracking resets automatically on your billing cycle date. You can see the exact reset date on the Spend Limits page.
Where can I see my current spend?
The Spend Limits page shows your current spend, the percentage used, and a progress bar. The Usage page has a detailed breakdown of credits used, input and output tokens, and per-user usage.
