Follow these steps when you want to share a chat with your team. The steps guide you through selecting a chat and sharing it via a generated link.

Overview

Generate secure shareable links for any chat in your workspace to collaborate with team members. This tutorial guides you through creating and distributing access links that allow others to view chat contents and context.

Learning Objectives:

  • Locate the share function in the chat interface

  • Generate a secure, persistent shareable link

  • Distribute chat links through external communication channels

  • Verify link accessibility for recipients

Prerequisites

You'll Need:

  • Access to a workspace with existing chat history

  • At least one chat with content you want to share

  • Permission to share chats (enabled by default for all users)

  • A destination for sharing the link (email, messaging app, etc.)

Sharing Chats via Generated Links

Access the Sharing Interface

  1. Navigate to the left panel and locate the chat you want to share in your chat list

  2. Click the chat name to open it in the main panel

  3. Click the "Share" button located in the top-right corner of the chat header

Result: The sharing modal window opens with link generation options.

Tip: The "Share" button appears only when you have an active chat selected. Ensure the correct chat displays in the main panel before clicking.

Generate and Copy the Shareable Link

  1. Click "Create Link" in the sharing modal

    • The system automatically generates a secure URL

    • Click on the generated link and share it

Result: A success message appears ("Link copied to clipboard") and the link displays in the modal for verification.

Note: Links remain active until you manually revoke them or delete the source chat. There is no automatic expiration.

Best Practices

  1. Generate links just before sharing: Create fresh links when needed to ensure they reflect the most current chat state. Links update dynamically as the chat evolves.

  2. Verify recipient access: Test the link in an incognito browser window before mass distribution to confirm it works as expected.

  3. Include context when sharing: Always accompany chat links with a brief description explaining why you're sharing it and what recipients should focus on.

  4. Use private chats for sensitive content: For confidential discussions, keep the chat private and share links only with authorized individuals rather than making the chat public.

Common Questions

Q: Can recipients edit the chat through a shared link?
A: No, shared links provide read-only access. Team members must access the chat directly from their workspace to contribute messages.

Q: What happens if I delete a chat after sharing its link?
A: The link becomes invalid immediately. Anyone attempting to access it will receive an error message stating the content no longer exists.

Q: Can I track who has viewed my shared chat?
A: Workspace administrators can access view logs, but individual users cannot see who clicked their shared links. Contact your administrator for access analytics.

Q: Do shared links work for people outside my workspace?
A: No, recipients must have workspace access to view shared chats. For external collaboration, consider exporting the chat or using a guest access feature if available.

Q: How do I revoke a shared link?
A: Return to the same chat, open the "Share" modal, and click "Revoke Link." This disables all previous URLs, requiring you to generate a new link for future sharing.

Q: Can I share multiple chats at once?
A: The current system supports sharing one chat at a time. For bulk sharing, create a folder containing multiple chats and share the folder instead.
