Prerequisites
You'll Need:
Access to a workspace where the chat resides
Owner or administrator permissions for the chat (chats can only be deleted by their creators or workspace admins)
Confirmation that the chat content is no longer needed (deletion is permanent)
Critical: Deleted chats cannot be recovered. Ensure you have backed up any important information before proceeding.
Deleting a Chat
Locate the Chat You Want to Delete
Navigate to the left panel to view your workspace navigation menu
Scroll through the chat list or expand folders to locate your target chat
Hover over the chat name to reveal additional options
Result: The chat name highlights and the Actions menu (β―) appears to the right of the chat name.
Note: If you don't see the chat, check inside folders or use the search function at the top of the left panel.
Access Chat Options and Delete
Click the Actions menu (β―) located to the right of the chat name
Select "Delete Chat" from the dropdown menu that appears
Review the deletion warning in the confirmation modal:
Click "Yes, delete it" in the modal dialog
Result: The confirmation modal closes and the chat disappears from the left panel immediately.
Warning: All messages, files, and media shared within the chat are permanently deleted. There is no trash or recovery option.

Document deletion decisions: For team workspaces, document why specific chats were deleted for compliance and team knowledge (e.g., "Deleted Q3 planning chats after project archival on 2026-01-15").
Establish team deletion policies: Create clear guidelines about when chats should be deleted versus archived to ensure consistent data management across your team.
Review chat contents carefully: Open the chat and scan through messages one final time before deleting to avoid accidentally removing important context.

Q: Can I delete a chat if I'm not the creator?
A: Members can only delete chats they created.
Q: Does deleting a chat notify other participants?
A: No. Other participants are not notified when you delete a chat. The chat simply disappears from their left panel the next time the interface refreshes.
Q: Can workspace administrators see deleted chats?
A: No. Once deleted, chats are completely removed from the workspace and are not accessible to anyone, including administrators.
Q: Is there a "trash" or "recycle bin" for chats?
A: No. TeamAI does not have a trash feature for chats. Deletion is immediate and permanent.
