Overview
Update your workspace's visual identity by changing the avatar or logo that appears in the top navigation bar. This avatar represents your workspace to all members and helps with brand recognition across multiple workspaces.
Learning Objectives:
Navigate to workspace settings from the left panel
Locate the General settings tab
Upload and position a new avatar image
Save changes and verify the update across the interface
Prerequisites
You'll Need:
Workspace administrator or owner role
Access to the workspace where you want to change the avatar
An image file for the new avatar (recommended: 200x200 pixels, JPG, PNG, or GIF)
Understanding that the change affects all workspace members
Important: Only workspace administrators can change the workspace avatar. If you don't see the option, contact your workspace administrator.
Changing Your Workspace Avatar
Access Workspace Settings
Navigate to the left panel of your main workspace view
Click the "Settings" icon (βοΈ) at the bottom of the left panel navigation
Click on "Workspace Settings" in the settings menu that appears
Result: The workspace settings page opens with tabs across the top.
Note: The Settings icon appears as a gear at the bottom of the left panel. If you don't see it, you may not have administrator permissions.
Navigate to General Tab
Click on the "General" tab at the top of the workspace settings page
Scroll down if necessary to locate the workspace avatar section
Result: The General tab displays workspace name, description, and avatar settings.
Tip: The General tab is typically the first tab in workspace settings, but you may need to scroll horizontally if you have many tabs enabled.
Update the Workspace Avatar
Locate the "Workspace Avatar" section under the General tab
Click the "Update Avatar" button (appears below the current avatar image)
Select your image file from the file browser that opens
Adjust the image position if the upload tool provides cropping options
Click "Save" or "Apply" in the avatar upload dialog
Result: The new avatar appears in the workspace avatar section and in the top navigation bar.
Tip: For best results, use a square image (200x200 pixels) with clear visibility at small sizes. PNG files with transparent backgrounds work well.
Verify the Change
Look at the top navigation bar to confirm the new avatar is visible
Navigate back to your workspace home page to see the avatar in context
Ask a team member to verify they see the new avatar on their end
Result: The new workspace avatar is visible to all workspace members immediately.
Troubleshooting: If the avatar doesn't update, try refreshing your browser or clearing your cache. The change should be instant but may take up to 30 seconds to propagate.
Best Practices
Choose recognizable imagery: Use your company logo, team mascot, or project icon so members can quickly identify the workspace.
Maintain consistent branding: If your organization has multiple workspaces, consider using related but distinct avatars for each one.
Test at small sizes: The avatar appears very small (usually 24x24 pixels) in navigation. Ensure your image is clear and recognizable when scaled down.
Use transparent backgrounds: PNG files with transparent backgrounds look cleaner against the interface's background color.
Avoid frequent changes: Constantly changing the workspace avatar can confuse team members. Change only when necessary (rebranding, project completion, etc.).
Keep a backup: Save your original avatar image in case you need to revert or use it elsewhere.
Coordinate with team: For major brand changes, notify workspace members in advance about the new avatar.
Check copyright: Ensure you have rights to use the image. Don't use copyrighted material without permission.
Common Questions

Q: What image formats are supported?
A: JPG, PNG, and GIF are supported. PNG with transparency is recommended for best results.

Q: Will all workspace members see the new avatar immediately?
A: Yes, the change is instant for all members. They may need to refresh their browser to see the update.
Q: Can I revert to the default avatar?

Q: Is there a limit to how often I can change the avatar?
A: No, but frequent changes are discouraged as they can confuse team members.
Q: Can I use an animated GIF as an avatar?
A: GIF is supported, but animated GIFs may not animate in all contexts. Test to ensure it displays as expected.
