Overview

TeamAI allows you to extend your AI assistants' capabilities by integrating both built-in and custom tools. These tools enable your assistants to retrieve information or take actions outside of the core AI system, such as browsing the web, generating images, or connecting to third-party services.

Learning Objectives:

  • Create and configure assistants with built-in tools

  • Understand the capabilities of custom tools

  • Publish enhanced assistants for team use

Prerequisites

You'll Need:

  • Access to your workspace

  • Permissions to create assistants

  • Clear understanding of desired assistant functionality

Creating a New Assistant

  1. Navigate to the assistants management interface in your workspace

    • Access your TeamAI workspace (https://[your-custom-subdomain].teamai.com/assistants)

    • Locate and click the option to create a new category (for organizational purposes)

    • Within your category, click to create a new assistant

    • Provide a descriptive title and select the appropriate category

Result: A new assistant will be created in your specified category.

Adding Built-in Tools

  1. Access the assistant configuration section

    • In the assistant settings, locate the tools section

    • Review the list of available built-in tools

  2. Select the appropriate built-in tools

    • Choose tools that match your assistant's purpose (e.g., web browsing, image generation)

    • For example, to create an image generation assistant, select the DALL-E 3 tool

Tip: Built-in tools require no additional setup beyond selection and can immediately enhance your assistant's capabilities.

Integrate Custom Tools

  1. Add existing custom tools

    • If you have custom tools already configured, make them available to your assistant

    • Custom tools allow access to third-party APIs and specialized functionality

    •

  2. Select custom tools for your assistant

    • During assistant configuration, choose the desired custom tools

    • You can integrate multiple tools to expand your assistant's capabilities

Note: You can create multiple custom tools based on your selected plan.

Warning: Ensure custom tools are properly configured before publishing your assistant.

Publish Your Assistant

  1. Review and finalize configuration

    • Ensure all desired tools are properly integrated

    • Verify assistant settings are complete

  2. Click the "Publish" button

    • This makes your assistant available for your team to use

    • The assistant will now have all the enhanced capabilities you've configured

Result: Team members can interact with the assistant and leverage its capabilities provided by both built-in and custom tools.

Best Practices

  1. Choose tools purposefully: Select only the tools that directly contribute to your assistant's primary function.

  2. Test thoroughly: Before publishing, test all tool integrations to ensure they work as expected.

  3. Document capabilities: Provide clear information to your team about what the assistant can do.

  4. Review permissions: Ensure the assistant has appropriate access levels for its intended use.
